Julie McFadden, a palliative nurse from California, broke hearts online by revealing the biggest regrets of people in their final moments of life.
McFadden, who has cared for more than 100 patients during their final moments, was a guest on a podcast where she spoke about what people regret most just before they die.
“The biggest regret people share, and the one I don’t hear often, is: ‘I wish I had appreciated my health more,'” McFadden explained to host Rob Moore on the Disruptors podcast.
McFadden runs a YouTube channel with over 500,000 followers where she openly talks about the dying process, from the physical signs of death to the emotional challenges people face when their time is near.
A recurring theme among her patients is that they say they regret not appreciating the small things in life. “I appreciate being able to breathe, walk, feel the sun – little things like that,” she explained about her own way of feeling gratitude for life.
The nurse, who has worked in intensive care, explained that her career has given her a unique perspective on life and death. “I think through my job, it’s easier for me to understand how unique life is.”
One of her goals on social media is to help people understand the dying process before they or their loved ones have to experience it themselves. “I think people should be informed about the dying process before they have to experience it,” she pointed out.
